Halo: ODST, GoW annnnnd I'm a Nerd

*shakes head*

I am disappointed people (mostly)

Halo 3: ODST is to Halo: Reach as Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is to Gran Turismo 5 (which they are FINALLY bringing out)

Its the Halo 3 Expansion pack, its the Halo: ODST book but the gameplay finishes 5 chapters before the book does, it leaves so many open ended everythings and its SO LINEAR!

Now I'm not saying its bad, I guess it's just different...VERY different.

It's still the Halo environment we have come to know and love, but barely...it has a very loose story line.

In the game your pretty much a n00b ODST in with the 1337 ODST's and your "dropping" onto Earth, into New Mombasa (for those of you that have never played Halo, really don't bother reading).

When your drop gets fudged by one of the Covenant cruisers jumping (into hyperspace) within the vicinity of New Mombasa  (thus sending a EMP like shockwave through your Pod) you crash land and regain consciousness 6 hours after your initial drop time.

Whilst you were avoiding the fight unconscious your fellow ODST team mates have managed to fight their way through lots and lots of Brutes, Grunts, Hunters, Jackals and blown alot of shit up (which you get to play).

The way you get to play these side stories (eventually your two timelines meet) is by finding 'beacons' (in other words clues) left behind unintentionally by your squad mates which take you back in time (eg 30min after drop) and allow you to play as them.

I guess, for me, this games only saving grace are the now ridiculously powerful weapons (bar the new SMG and Pistol which are only really powerful if you blow your enemy's head off...funny that) and Firefight which is HOLY F*CKING SHIT AWESOME! - even though its just a rip off of Horde, Gears of War 2's unlimited slaying of stupid AI game.

My friend and I last night spent 2 hours playing and only got up to set 3...the way it works is you go through sets 1 through to 9od only kn0ws...and you have 5 or so waves per set each wave getting harder and harder e.t.c

2 HOURS and only set 3...

Where Firefight fails against say GOW2's Horde is that you can't select a set to go to, say if you got up to set 5 and it took you 4 hours to get there, you can't just load it up from set 5, you need to play it through ALL OVER AGAIN...

One other thing, there's no Master Chief or Sgt. Johnson...

So in summary, Firefight is awesome, story line is average - however due to its infinitesimal gameplay time i'll give it 3 stars out of 5 - million HAHAHAH kidding, 3/5....

As for the supposed "Halo: Reach" multiplayer beta...I'm yet to see it/play it...

If anything, this game has made me re-read the Halo novels...which are awesome...

If your a Halo fan, I suggest you read 'The Fall of Reach'...

My guess is that the upcoming game (2010) will be based on this book, loosely or entirely...who knows, doesn't change the fact that its worth a read.

Now everyone knows how much of a nerd I am, I am going back to my Batcave... Live Long and Prosper \\//. .\\//
