Apples, Nokia's, Logos and Apples...or Apples?

Today is a good day for me my friends, today is the day in which all of my gaylord assessment pieces *unfortunately only assignments* are now officially completed :D ORSMMMMM

Last night I went with one of my mates into his university to do some work on our assignments, thing was it was 10:30pm when we got in there and we didn't leave until 2:20am...and being at university doing even more assignments at 9:00am with 5 hours sleep, what a blast....

Moving along...in news of a somewhat different nature, Apple (a company, when not selling MacBooks and iPhones to millions of teeny boppers who don't even know how to use them, makes a living (although its more of a hobby) out of suing other companies) is now being sued by Nokia for patent infringement.

In a statement from Nokia the alleged "infringed" patents on the iPhone are...
"...wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption are infringed by all Apple iPhone models shipped since the iPhone was introduced in 2007,"
"The ten patents in suit relate to technologies fundamental to making devices which are compatible with one or more of the GSM, UMTS (3G WCDMA) and wireless LAN standards."
"By refusing to agree appropriate terms for Nokia's intellectual property, Apple is attempting to get a free ride on the back of Nokia's innovation," Ilkka Rahnasto, deputy head of Nokia's legal department, said in the statement
The news article here, goes on to explain that due to the massive success of the iPhone, if Nokia has a substantial case here with steady grounding and if Apple haven't paid the patents (or what not) this could mean several BILLION euros for Nokia (or at least a couple of hundred million euros...tragedy).

I just think its funny that this law suit comes after Nokia announced a net loss in July-September of 559 million euros with sales shrinking 20% to 9.8 billion euros over a 12 month period.... (because of course 9.8 billion just isn't enough)

As far as Nokia phones go, I think Nokia's just aren't as appealing anymore, especially to the younger generation (once upon a time if you had anything OTHER than a Nokia 3315 *you remember that chunky bastard with its awesome ringtones* you just weren't cool), with Phones like the iPhone (obviously), Blackberry's and HTC's doing everything better (and being more svelte), the good old Nokia's are just being overlooked...unless your a tradey and have left your hammer at home?

In more fruity news (*shakes head - lamecore*) and to prove my point above, Apple is suing Woolworths!

If you are blind (or if you are oblivious to your surroundings) you will not have noticed the new Apple Woolworths logo (hows that for a twist?..doing the whole Not notic- nevermind)

Anyway, if you have noticed, than you have more than likely mistaken your local Woolworths for an Apple store, only to have the initial feeling of awesomeness destroyed by the realisation that the store sells REAL Apples instead of what you were after.

*Lame joke of the day!!*

So the supermarket giant Woolworths was recently challenged by Apple regarding its new ‘W’ logo, which the technology giant believes resembles its own. Apple lodged an objection against the logo after reportedly fearing Woolworths could move into selling electrical goods.

Now yes, some people will argue that what apple is doing is stingey, and it looks nothing at all like the iconic Apple logo, however i disagree...

1. It does kind of look the same - however I think it's a case of "when you are looking for similarities you'll find it"
2. By suing Woolworths Apple is trying to ensure that the "Apple" remains synonymous with their products and technology (if that makes sense - well it does to me)
3. The main issue is that Woolworths went for a fucking everything blanket trademark which would/could allow them, if they so choose, to produce a laptop and put a glowing Woolworths Apple logo on the back in the middle...and could look like this -> *chyeah bitch I did that in Word :P*

Yes, I am Mac Fanboy so yes, I am slightly bias, but that doesn't change the fact that i agree with what they are doing...they wont win, but perhaps the T&C's of the Woolworths trademark will be amended.

In the spirit of suing Woolworths, I think '3' mobile should get in on it!

Why? well....Look closely at the following picture and when you see it you will shit bricks you'll see the Woolworths and the 3 logo.

ANYWHO, I would like to apologise for the delay between blogs, I have been really busy and surprisingly these are time consuming, I still love doing them though :D

Oh, and if you own a BluRay player, GO AND BUY STAR TREK...

Enjoy your weekend

  4. Apple seriously needs to get over themselves, no one could mistake the new Woolworths logo for the Apple logo, not even if they started making laptops and sticking their symbol on the back and lighting it up white, there is a massive difference between a W that looks like and Apple, and an actual apple that has a bite out of it! It is the most stupid legal case ever, and just proves Apple is as stuck up as a stick in a lollypop! Also, Apple IS infringing on Nokia's patents, they are put in place so that a company can have some form of intellectual property on their ideas, without them no one would ever innovate because they wouldn't want to just have to give their ideas away for free. Apple needs to pay Nokia, stop suing Woolworths, go back home, and sue someone about something meaningful!
