I Just Got Eye Raped!!! :O

Let me stop you right now before you go OH MY GOSH THATS SO INAPPROPRIATE *(or whatever else)

I didn’t get raped, but my personal bubble was sure as shit intruded...

I was only discussing trust with one of my friends the other day whilst talking about banking.

Every cent that gets deposited into his bank account, he immediately withdraws and very Jewish like stashes it in his mattress...(or in his piggy bank or in his copy of Management Principles in the top drawer of his desk underneath his pencil case, next to his Joop aftershave... oops?)

Anyway, I just passed his mistrust in banking off as him being paranoid and told him the banks aren’t out to get us.

I then proceeded to tell him that he does not have enough confidence in the banks and he was paranoid, to which he responded that perhaps I had TOO much trust in banks...which kind of made me go "hmmm", and I conceded defeat.

It was only a momentary "hmm" moment, which was then swept under the rug as the video for Call of Duty 4 MW2 had loaded on YouTube and it required my immediate attention.

I only really started to think about it again during my Optometrist appointment this morning and how we have been conditioned to automatically instill trust in our professionals (medical, government, journalists e.t.c. but I am talking medical)

Ultimately we are trust our Medical professionals to make the right choices when it comes to our health which they occasionally get wrong, except if you are being treated by House (FTW)...in which case no matter how bad you get and how close to death you come, you'll be fine =D.

Each year surveys show that politicians and journalists are the least trusted professions. It's a tough verdict, especially as both professions have their share of angels and scoundrels. Meanwhile, doctors are consistently at the top of the list of most trusted by the public. And not even the murderous acts of Harold Shipman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Shipman)%20and and years of assault on the medical profession by the mainstream media have managed to shake that perception.

In a similar case, closer to home...Dr. Jayant Patel...need I say more?

I really hope I am getting my point across...I have all these thoughts and ideas floating around in the empty space that is my head and I'm trying to make sense of them and put them all down.

Back to my aforementioned optometrist appointment...

I've not been to the optometrists for a while now so I couldn't really remember what was SOP and what wasn't, all I could remember was that I would have to put on those gumby glasses and have one of my eyes covered and have to read H G K S on a white piece of paper in a mirror.

So when he said that he needed to check my eyes, I just went along with it...

The inspection involved the use of an otoscope (what doctors check your ears with, or similar) and him using it to look in and around my eyes (close contact)

My thought process was a follows;
- OK this is routine
- This is really weird
- Wow, this is quite up close and personal
- Ummm his breathing is quite disturbing...
- Should I say something?
- Is it over yet? how long should this take?
- Are we touching foreheads?!
- HOLY SHIT IM BEING VIOLATED

The whole time I kept telling myself this is okay...he’s the optometrist, he knows best...but my god it was uncomfortable.

I’m just saying, I don’t think we should lose faith in our doctor’s e.t.c but I guess if something feels weird then perhaps we should say something?
I don’t really know what to make of it, I really don’t think it was anything...perhaps I’m just a little homophobic...but who knows...

Have a good Friday
