It seems that a trend is emerging amongst young drivers, yes P platers, who seem to believe that they are above the law when it comes to obeying road rules....and I don't mean to bash P platers (who am I kidding yes I do) but how is it that being a P plater/Learner gives you an excuse to be reckless and then merely pass it off and put it on the "delinquent teenage stereotype" tab?
Take, for example, 21 year old Joanne Grosse the lovely young lady from Canberra who is the single most retarded person on the planet, is the one person who I can predict will surely die soon from jaundice - and I'm not psychic said fuck you to science and all things anatomical and blew a 0.385 (19x legal limit in Canberra = 0.02, 7x the limit here in QLD) while slumped behind the wheel of a car.
While we're on the topic of BAC - click this link to read about how Anna Bligh, in her infinite wisdom, is considering lowering the BAC limit for QLD to .02 i.e. you can have one drink and your over....
It was a big night for her, because after she'd had her run in with the Police she then went home and continued to drink - and probably continued to do so right up until her court date where she was fined a miserable $600 and slapped with an 18 months driving ban....way to fix the problem.
Story here....
I think here, now I will tell a funny joke - yada yada yaa blah blah, punch line is: QLD P plater restrictions...I'm just saying
List of Restrictions
Yes, they may look thorough and what not, but I guess where they become ridiculous is the restrictions on the type of car P platers can drive - i.e no turbo, no supercharger, no V8, no car with an engine outputting more than 200kw...
Soooooo cars that comply with this would be Swifts? Corollas? yes, but so do Nissan Skylines (2.5L 6cyl - >150kw), Holden Commodore Sv6's - a new one if you are lucky enough, either way (3.6L V6 - 195kw) etc... the list goes on.
I've driven a non turbo Nissan Skyline and I can tell you, you don't need a turbo to go fast...nor do you need a big engine...
Anyway continuing with my original point about P platers getting away with a fun bag full of assorted illegalities.
Some of you may remember...others who didn't have access to the internet/TV/Print Media may not sometime last year a couple of douchebag teenagers were involved in a crash along Creek Rd in Mt Gravatt succeeding a hot pursuit chase where both vehicles were travelling in excess of 117km/h (in a 60km/h zone).
Long story short the occupants in one of the vehicles (which rolled and hit a pole) both ended up in Hospital, one with severe brain and spinal injuries the other with chest, spine and knee injuries, throw in some amnesia to top it off while your at it.
What were they driving? Skylines? WRX's? Commodore? no.... a Swift and a Lancer.
I digress, read the latest if your interested here, so for the damage they caused, the lives the ruined (the unwilling passenger, because she was totally like "hey that bitch swerved at us, chase him...yes please do speed, and yes drive like the transporter") e.t.c both drivers were sentenced to 2 years in jail....however, one sentence was suspended and the other has to spend a mere 4 months in prison.
Way to go legal system...
Perhaps the problem here doesn't lie with our P platers - Perhaps the problem lies with our legal system and it's apparent level of complacency.
For example, this story - which makes me ill....
Drive safe kiddies
